Clinical Trial Manager
BIO-CAT is seeking a Clinical Trial Manager to join our R&D Team. This role will oversee the start-up, execution and close-out of clinical trials in collaboration with Executive strategic directives, including the daily activities involved with operations of the study, planning, implementation, tracking and administration. The role will also identify and recommend the trial sites, oversee visits and manage the budget process with reports to the Executive team. The role is IN OFFICE at our Troy, Virginia location (no remote work) with hours Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Duties & Job Responsibilities:
- Meet regularly with our Sr. R&D and Product Innovation Manager to establish strategic project initiatives and lab requirements for such
- Coordinate and author work on manuscripts, articles and patents as necessary.
- Serve as peer review for manuscripts.
- Represent BIO-CAT with clients, strategic partners and at trade shows as applicable as well as other duties as assigned.
- Working closely with our Compliance Director on claims substantiation and regulatory documentation as applicable and being primary technical lead for clinical needs.
Preferred Skills:
- Candidates should have an Advanced Degree in a related field of science
- Preferable experience being in the Nutrition and Microbiome fields.
- Five+ years of experience of Clinical Trial and Manuscript work is preferred.
- Must have great project management and communication (written and oral) skills to succeed.

Fermentation & Recovery Operator
Unique opportunity for the right individual in Shakopee, Minnesota at a growing microbial fermentation facility. This job will be working in production/fermentation area of the business. BIO-CAT Microbials is a food grade facility producing probiotics for humans, animals and agriculture.
Full time employment with a four-day work week (4 x 10-hour days). Hourly rate determined on experience.
Two different shifts available, either:
- Monday – Thursday 6am-4:30 pm, ability to work earlier or later available, if required.
- Wednesday – Saturday 6am – 4:30pm, ability to work earlier or later available, if required.
- Pay differential of $2/hr included for Saturday schedule.
Requirements:
- Mature, responsible, adult with steady work experience
- Good communication skills (verbal, written, computer)
- Ability to lift 60 lbs
- Strong mechanical background & skills
- Attention to detail is a must
- Willingness to work
- Willing to work OT as needed

- Past work or basic understanding of food grade facilities and requirements a plus.
Duties & Job Responsibilities:
- Fermentation – will include (but not be limited to):
- CIP (clean-in-place) of fermentation vessels and equipment
- Sterilization of vessels and equipment
- Weighing and blending ingredients
- Monitoring fermentation parameters
- Centrifuge – will include (but not be limited to):
- Disassembly and cleaning of centrifuge
- Reassembly, operation of centrifuge (8-16 hours)
- Monitoring centrifuge parameters throughout
- Spray dryer – will include (but not be limited to):
- Disassembly and cleaning of spray dryer
- Reassembly, operation of spray dryer
- Monitoring spray dryer parameters throughout
- Boiler License – Will be required to have or be able to obtain Special Engineer Boiler License as an employee
- BIO-CAT Microbials will pay for classes and fees required to obtain this license.
- Maintenance tasks will include (but not be limited to) disassembling, reassembling, and lubrication of pumps, valves, piping, motors, and equipment.
- May be required to troubleshoot low voltage electrical equipment.
- Will perform warehousing tasks, e.g. loading/unloading trucks, inventories, preparing shipments, forklift etc.

Research Scientist
BIO-CAT Microbials is a fully integrated Bacillus spore manufacturing facility in Shakopee, MN. Utilizing our strengths in Bacillus fermentation, we make Bacillus-based products to naturally improve the world around us. From soil inoculants to animal health and probiotics, we strive for quality and integrity with every custom solution we produce.
We are seeking a research and development scientist to join our science and product innovation team at our Minnesota facility. The R&D scientist will develop experimental hypotheses, design and perform experiments, analyze data sets, and write protocols and reports. They will play a key role in characterizing new strains, developing new products, and presenting technical aspects of their projects. They will report directly to the Asst. VP of Technical Operations and interact with all levels of business across departments.
In this role, you will have following opportunities:
- Independently and collaboratively design, execute, and analyze simple to moderately sophisticated experimental work as well as present conclusions to key stakeholders both internally and externally
- Characterize Bacillus strains and discover unique properties to be used for health benefits
- Discover/isolate unique strains and compounds to improve human and animal health
- Develop new Bacillus-based products
- Contribute to peer reviewed manuscripts and patent applications
- Use expertise to improve technical rigor of the innovation and product development processes
- Provide technical leadership within laboratory
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, food science, or related life science field with 3 to 5+ years of experience in research or Master’s degree in field with 1 to 2+ years of experience in research
- Proven skills and experience in experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis, and final reports
- Solid knowledge of good laboratory practices and scientific methods with ability to work within GFSI, FDA, and other food safety regulations
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Skills and experience in written communication including reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and patents; oral communication including internal and external presentations
- Hands on experience working with microorganisms
It would be a plus if you have experience in:
- Understanding of statistical methods and design of experiments
- Bacterial physiology/metabolism
- Molecular biology techniques such as PCR and qPCR
- Bioinformatic analysis and database tools for analyzing genomes
- Collaboration within cross functional teams of 3-6 people
